ABSTRACT When Joseph Heller started Hellerwork® Structural Integration, he had his friend and colleague Dr. Don St. John at his side. In this interview, St. John talks about the start of what is now Hellerwork International, and how psychology principles were considered when formulating the Hellerwork training. Many memories of those early days are revisited, as well as important contributors to the theory and practice of Hellerwork.

ABSTRACT Interviewer and Hellerworker Greer Bailey asks Joseph Heller to tell the story of creating the structural integration school, Hellerwork® International. Starting with his early life in Poland during World War II, to studying aerospace engineering at Caltech, to when Heller met Dr. Ida Rolf when he was already very interested in the humanistic movement in California in the 1970s. Bailey asks Heller to reflect on how he integrated the essential elements Rolf’s structural integration with what he felt was essential movement and psychology theory to guide the client’s healing experience.

In this interview, Jacobson recounts his first meeting with Ida Rolf, PhD, in 1973 and his acceptance into her training to become a Rolfer. He reflects on the influences Rolf spoke about and his application of the Rolfing® Ten Series throughout his fifty-year career.

ABSTRACT Jan H. Sultan reflects on learning Rolfing® Structural Integration from Dr. Rolf at Esalen Institute alongside Emmett Hutchins, Judith Aston, and Peter Melchior. Taking that education to rural Northern New Mexico, Sultan was driven by the demands of the work to study further, to unpack what Rolf had taught. In this article, he shares some of her foundational ideas. Sultan also considers his more than fifty years of teaching structural integration.

ABSTRACT To discuss the profession and the people of structural integration is to start with its pioneer, Dr. Ida P. Rolf. In this article, Libby Eason, Chair of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® (DIRI), takes us through Rolf’s early years, highlighting the benchmark experiences that led to her developing her ‘Recipe’ of the Ten Series and starting her school, DIRI. Eason discusses some of the people who have made significant contributions to the work, the school, and the profession as a whole.
